Biwe is worldwide active to create new employment opportunities and therefore always on the search for new instruments for this purpose.
In this context, the international team of our organization asked 36 companies from different industries in 12 countries the following question: "What impedes your company from hiring 10% more employees?"
The answers can be assigned to 5 clusters, which result in different options for schools, universities and other actors who believe in employment opportunites.
1. The No-Way cluster
Number of responses in the survey : 8 (22%)
This group of companies cannot imagine any circunstances that would motivate them to hire additional staff.
Here the question arises whether putting resources and energy into these enterprises promises success for VET institutions, or whether other clusters should rather be prioritized.
(Total number > 36, as there were multiple answers in some cases)
2. The „We do not find the right people“-Cluster
Number of responses in the survey: 13 (36%)
These companies would continue to hire staff, but are not satisfied with what is available in the labor market.
Here we encounter the natural partners for us as actors involved in vocational training. According to international experience, there is a variety of forms of cooperation, e.g. dual training, training for job placement, ... to work together.
The downside, however, is that you can probably only reach a part of all employers with technical training or education.
3. The „We need capital“-Cluster
Number of responses in the survey: 4 (11%)
This group was quite small in this survey. Further training allowing (prospective) entrepreneurs and managers to better present their business projects to equity investors and lenders might be an opportunity to positively influence the labor market.
4. The „We need to sell more“-Cluster
Number of responses in the survey: 11 (31%)
According to the team of Biwe International that conducted the survey, this group may perhaps be the most interesting for further analysis.
Cross-industry sales and marketing qualifications may be an instrument to create additional jobs in many places around the world. This is possibly specifically relevant as sales and marketing are sectors with opportunities for people regardless of their gender, age, origin or physical disabilities.
5. The Miscellaneous-Cluster
Number of responses in the survey: 5 (14%)
These are companies whose answers cannot be assigned to any of the first 4 clusters. However, the answers are so diverse that we have decided not to derive general options for action from them.
Interest?
Bildungswerk der Baden-Württembergischen Wirtschaft is looking for other companies and other partners from the vocational training sector who would like to take part in further surveys on the subject.
