With the support of BMZ and GIZ Rwanda, we have launched a transformative project in Rwanda in March 2024. It is aimed at equipping 160 young individuals with essential skills in sales and customer care. Over the course of a year, we are dedicated to providing these youths with both theoretical and practical training to enhance their employability. They have already found employment and are inspire us to continue to support other young people in Rwanda.
Claudette: From aspiration to achievement
A young girl of 24, Claudette resides in the Gasabo district of Kigali. Prior to joining our training program, Claudette faced significant challenges in her job search due to a lack of connections and limited employability skills. The training she received was a game changer, providing her with a robust foundation in essential competencies necessary for success in the workplace.
After completing her two-week theoretical training, Claudette was placed at Sawa Citi Supermarket for her in-company training for four weeks. Her performance was exemplary, leading to her hiring as a customer care agent. Reflecting on her journey, Claudette shared, "My life changed when I joined this project. I now have a stable job and am earning an income that is allowing me to improve my economic situation." With aspirations of pursuing higher education in the next three years, Claudette dreams of advancing to an upper management position in the sales and customer care sector.
Ernesto Cheguevara: Brewing confidence and career growth
Ernesto Cheguevara, a determined young man of 21, is from from Nyarugenge district. Like Claudette, Ernesto struggled to find employment before joining the project, facing barriers in interviews. His experience in our training program provided him with the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
After completing his in-company training at Café Camellia, Ernesto was offered a position as a customer care and service agent, where he serves customers with a variety of coffee-related products and other refreshments. He emphasized the pivotal role that the training played in his employment journey, stating, "The skills I gained were key to impressing my employer. I feel more confident and ready to take on new challenges." Looking ahead, Ernesto is committed to working hard to develop his career in the coffee shop sector, aspiring to become a leader in this vibrant industry.
Françoise: Empowered through experience
Françoise, at 25 years of age, works as a receptionist at Stantech Technologies, a company specializing in technology products such as security cameras and digital locks. Before joining our program, Françoise found it challenging to secure a job due to her low employability skills. The training she received proved to be a turning point in her professional journey.
During her apprenticeship, Françoise gained hands-on experience in customer service and sales, learning how to effectively engage with customers even before they enter the store. She expresses her gratitude for the training, stating, "This program has changed my life. I now have the skills needed to excel in my job and contribute to the success of my company." Francoise´s confidence and skills have not only transformed her career prospects but have also empowered her to envision a brighter future.
Fidèle: Passion for outstanding service
Fidèle of 20 years old, also resides in Gasabo district. He completed his in-company training at Delight Hotel, where he was exposed to various departments, including kitchen, housekeeping, and front office. It was during this training that Fidèle discovered his passion for outstanding service.
His dedication and enthusiasm did not go unnoticed; the hotel management appreciated his commitment and performance, leading to his direct hiring after the apprenticeship. Fidele shares his thoughts: "I found my passion during my training. I am grateful for the opportunity to work in a field that I love." His story highlights how the project not only equips young people with skills but also helps them discover their true passions.
