The photo shows Patrick, Aline and Dieudonné, three graduates of a BIWE training for in-company trainers in Rwanda. The training was implemented in 2024 by BIWE and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as part of the special initiative “Decent Work for a Just Transition” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The three graduates are not just “some” in-company trainers. We had the chance to accompany their careers over a longer period of time.
1. Patrick:
Patrick is an ambitious young man of 21. He completed a dual training program as an electrician, which was part of a partnership between BIWE and SOS Children's Villages Rwanda financed by the BMZ through sequa gGmbH. Patrick did not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills.
After his graduation, Patrick further enhanced his career prospects by completing a short course in sales and customer service, enhancing his skills in dealing effectively with clients and stakeholders. Patrick's commitment and newly acquired skills did not go unnoticed. His training company is OFFGRID BOX, a pioneering company in renewable energy solutions. Here, Patrick is thriving and using his technical expertise in the field of domestic electricity to make a meaningful contribution to projects aimed at providing sustainable energy solutions to remote communities.
Patrick was taken on by OFFGRID BOX after completing his apprenticeship. The company recognized his leadership potential and had him participate in the BIWE training program for company trainers. Equipped with the knowledge and experience, he gained during his training and work, Patrick now plays a central role in mentoring and leading the next generation of apprentices at OFFGRID BOX. His story inspires others to pursue their goals with determination and to seize opportunities for personal and professional development.
This success story highlights Patrick's evolution from being a participant in our training program to become a valued mentor in his industry and demonstrates the tangible results of our commitment to empowering individuals through comprehensive skills development and hands-on experience.
2. Aline:
Aline is a determined person who, at the age of 23, took part in our short qualification “Sales and Customer Service”. Armed with her newly acquired skills and enthusiasm, Aline has set out to make her mark in the service industry. After completing our training, Aline secured a traineeship at MANICORPS, a distributor company of mosquito repellents. During her training, she diligently applied her knowledge, gained practical experience in dealing with customers and refined her sales techniques. Aline's exemplary performance caught the attention of the Mood Coffee Shop and got her a job there.
Here, she is currently using her skills and self-confidence and has quickly become a valued member of the team. The company also recognized her leadership potential, so she took part in the BIWE training program for company trainers. In the future, Aline will play a central role in supporting and leading the next generation of trainees at the Mood Coffee Shop.
3. Dieudonné:
As Patrick, Dieudonné has become a qualified electrician. He is 25 years old and completed his apprenticeship at Real Contractors, one of the largest construction companies in the country. However, he has since moved to OMC Ltd, a local company which is dealing with lamps assembling.
We hope that with the support of these three and many other graduates, we can provide numerous young men and women with a career path in the growing Rwandan economy.
